Universal Red Blood Cells for use in Space missions
RedC Biotech is developing an industrial process to produce universal red blood cells for life saving transfusions. Blood transfusions is crucial in medical treatments in extreme environment including space missions. Red blood cells have a unique morphology and biochemical characteristics. Rakia space mission in collaboration with the Israel aerospace medicine institute (IAMI), focus in the critical maturation stage of progenitor cells towards mature red blood cells in microgravity aboard the International space station (ISS), compared to ground control study on Earth. This Rakia space experiment will broaden the preparedness for production of life saving blood products on earth and for space travel.
